USC Marshall School of Business honored 14 faculty members in a chair installation ceremony on October 16.
According to the USC Provost, each named chair is established by an endowment created for the primary purpose of supporting particular academic programs. The distinction recognizes a professor’s commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and service to the university.
The ceremony took place on the Moreton Fig patio and was accompanied by dinner and remarks from Greys Sošić, senior vice dean of faculty and academic affairs.
“This type of event is why it’s nice to be in my position, because I have a chance to honor and celebrate the best in practice at Marshall: all of our faculty who excel in their research, teaching, and service,” Sošić said.
During the ceremony, honorees expressed gratitude and reflected on the accomplishment. Andy Call, new dean of the Leventhal School of Accounting, was installed as the Alan Casden Dean’s Chair for the Leventhal School.
“Investing in the institution matters. It brings rewards personally and professionally, and it’s where we can have the biggest impact,” Call said. “I really appreciate this honor. I love being here at USC and with all of you. I look forward to working with you all.”
Andrew Daw, installed as the Dean’s Assistant Professorship in Business Administration, reflected on the encouragement he’s received throughout his time at Marshall.
“This is a place where people seem to go out of their way to support people,” Daw said. “I don’t think I would be standing up here right now without them.”
