Dan O'Leary

  • Professor of Accounting

Dan focuses on artificial intelligence, emerging technologies and text mining. Professor O’Leary is an Editor of The Accounting Review, in Accounting Information Systems, and on the editorial boards of several journals in information systems and artificial intelligence. He is former editor of IEEE Intelligent Systems and the Journal of Organizational Computing and Electronic Commerce.

Dan was named a Research Fulbright Scholar in 2021 – 2022 in France in computer science in artificial intelligence. A co-authored paper was awarded the Association for Information Systems (AIS), Paul Gray Award “Most Thought-Provoking Paper" in 2021. He also was named an AIS Distinguished Member and was awarded an AIS Award for Innovation in Teaching. In 2017 he was listed among the top 100 information systems researchers. He was awarded the American Accounting Association’s Journal of Information Systems best paper for 2017-2019. In 2023, Professor O’Leary was Elected as a Senior Member of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence. Dan was named an UiPath Visionary Educator in Robotic Process Automation (RPA) in 2021 and named the SET (Strategic and Emerging Technologies Section of the American Accounting Association) Outstanding Educator. Professor O’Leary is listed among the Stanford list of the “Top 100000 Scientists” based on citations and publications. In 2023, Dan was awarded the Mark Chain/Deloitte Innovation in Graduate Teaching Award for his course in USC’s Master of Accounting program.

Professor O’Leary has received several research grants, including an iORB–Robotic Process Analysis grant, KPMG’s KARP Award for Data and Analytics–Non-Traditional Measures, KPMG’s International Business Information Systems Program Grant, a NSA Grant (MKIDS) and a DHS grant on security. In addition, he has received grants from the Institute of Internal Auditors and the National Association of Accountants.
