Dr. Carter G. Woodson - The Father of Black History. Historian, Dr. Woodson believed it was important to first unlearn the misinformation about black people that was taught at the time, then learn about the contributions that black people have made to the world.
National Freedom Day - The day commemorates the signing by Abraham Lincoln of a resolution for the 13th amendment to the American Constitution, that proposed abolishment of slavery.
According to the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, the 2022 Black History Month Theme focuses on Black Health & Wellness.
Rosa Parks Day - Rosa Parks Birthday. However, the States of Ohio and Oregon choose to celebrate this day on December 1st, the day of her arrest. The California Legislature was passed in 2000.
Abraham's Lincoln Birthday - U.S. President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.
Frederick Douglas Birthday - African American abolitionist, author, and orator.
