Dr. Wanda M. Austin was appointed interim president of the University of Southern California on August 7, 2018 by the Board of Trustees. Austin is an American businesswoman who is internationally recognized for her work in aeronautics and systems engineering. She is co-founder of MakingSpace Inc., a systems engineering and leadership development consultant and motivational speaker.She is the former president and CEO of The Aerospace Corp., an independent, nonprofit organization dedicated to the application of science and technology toward critical issues affecting the nation’s space program. From January 2008 until October 2016, Austin led the organization’s 3,600 employees and managed annual revenues of $950 million at 17 offices nationwide. As the sixth president, she was the first female and the first African American president in the 57-year history of the organization.

Hester M Peirce

Hester M. Peirce

Commissioner to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)

Hester M. Peirce was sworn-in, as Commissioner, to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in January 2018. Prior to joining the Commission, she served as Senior Research Fellow and Director of the Financial Markets Working Group (now called Program on Financial Regulation) at the Mercatus Center at George Mason University. There, Commissioner Peirce’s research explored how financial markets foster economic growth and prosperity and the role well-designed regulation plays in protecting investors and consumers while promoting financial stability and innovation. She’s co-edited two books, authored publications, testified before Congress, and served on the SEC’s Investor Advisory Committee. Pierce also has experience working with the U.S. Senate, serving on Senator Richard Shelby’s Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs staff as Senior Counsel. In that position, she oversaw financial regulatory reform efforts following the 2008 financial crisis and conducted oversight of the regulatory implementation of the Dodd-Frank Act. 

Peter Gleason

Peter Gleason

President and CEO, NACD

Peter Gleason is the President and CEO of the NACD. Recognized as an expert on board leadership and corporate governance issues, Gleason is a member of NACD’s national faculty and a frequent speaker who is regularly quoted in the national media. Gleason serves as deputy chair of the Global Network of Director Institutes on the boards of NACD and the NACD Capital Area Chapter as well as on the advisory board of Nura Health. Prior to joining NACD, Gleason was a management consultant with both Ernst & Young and Pritchett & Associates. Aside from the NACD, he was also a vice president and director of US Research for ISS. He holds an MBA with concentration in both Finance and Marketing from Virginia Tech and an undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College.

Dean Jim Ellis

James Ellis

Dean, USC Marshall School of Business

James Ellis was appointed Dean of the Marshall School of Business in 2007. Previously, he served as the University's Vice Provost for Globalization, Marshall's Vice Dean for External Relations, and Marshall's Associate Dean for the Undergraduate Program. As an instructor, he has been named professor of the year by many organizations and in 2003 received Marshall's Golden Apple Award and Teaching Has No Boundaries Award. Professor Ellis continues to teach Marshall's invitation-only Freshman Leadership Colloquium each fall. Dean Ellis serves on boards at the Capital Group and Mercury Insurance as well as a number of non-profit boards.
