    Finance Peer Career Advising (PCA)

The Marshall Financial Services Career Hub's Finance Peer Career Advising (PCA) Program connects undergraduate students with trained senior peer advisors who have successfully completed competitive Summer Analyst internships across a range of finance sectors, including investment banking, investment management, private equity, wealth management, and more.

Drawing on their firsthand recruiting experience, PCAs provide personalized guidance on resumes, technical interview preparation, networking strategies, recruiting timelines, and interview preparation. Students may connect with advisors specializing in investment banking, investment management and buy-side careers, or wealth management and private banking.

Marshall and Leventhal undergraduate majors, students pursuing the Business Finance and Real Estate Finance minors, and Master of Finance Progressive Degree Program (PDP) students are welcome to request a 1:1 advising appointment during the academic year through Handshake.

In addition to individual advising, PCAs lead workshops, panel discussions, and career education programming that introduce students to different areas of finance while sharing practical recruiting insights and firsthand experiences. Students should check Handshake and the weekly Hub newsletter for upcoming events.

Why Meet With a Finance PCA?

Finance PCAs have recently completed the same recruiting process that many students are preparing to navigate. Their firsthand perspective allows them to provide practical, experience-based guidance tailored to today's recruiting landscape. Every appointment is tailored to the individual student, though the following are some of the most common ways PCAs support students throughout the recruiting process.

  • Resume & Cover Letter Reviews

Receive personalized feedback on your resume and cover letter, including formatting, bullet points, and strategies for positioning your experiences for competitive finance recruiting.

  • Recruiting Strategy

Receive guidance on general recruiting timelines and processes, researching firms and industry groups aligned with your interests, and developing a thoughtful strategy for internship and full-time recruiting.

  • Interview Preparation

Prepare for behavioral, technical, and case interviews while learning from PCAs' firsthand recruiting and Superday experiences. Receive practical tips, mock interview feedback, and strategies to approach interviews with confidence.

  • Networking Guidance

Build meaningful professional relationships by learning how to leverage LinkedIn and the Trojan Network, identify and connect with alumni and professionals, craft effective outreach messages, and make the most of networking conversations.

Schedule your appointment through Handshake. Finance PCA appointments are available once per week and are 30 minutes in length, with virtual and in-person options available. Please do not contact or email PCAs directly to request appointments. If you're having trouble accessing PCA appointments in Handshake, first review your Handshake profile and make sure all academic information, including your School Year (freshman/sophomore/junior/senior), is up to date. This information helps determine your access within Handshake. If you still cannot view PCA appointments after updating your profile, or if you have questions about eligibility, please contact the Financial Services Career Hub at msbfinancecareerhub@marshall.usc.edu.

    Career Education Programming

Finance PCAs extend their impact beyond individual advising by leading workshops, panel discussions, and recruiting preparation programs throughout the academic year. Drawing on their recent recruiting experiences, they help students better understand finance career pathways while providing practical guidance on networking, technical preparation, recruiting timelines, and interviewing.

    Programming may include:

    • Investment Banking Preparation Workshops

    • Buy-Side Bootcamp Series

    • Wealth Management & Private Banking Career Panel

Finance PCA programming will be shared on the weekly Hub newsletters, and students can register for these events as they're posted through the Hub's Handshake Collections page. Early registration and timely arrival are encouraged, as space may be limited, and popular events often reach capacity.
