Associate Professor of Finance and Business Economics CARY D. FRYDMAN received the Vernon L. Smith Excellence Award for the 2023 Best Paper in Experimental Finance. The award is named for the esteemed American economist by the same name who teaches at Chapman University. The Society for Experimental Finance bestows the award on researchers who exhibit excellence in the field of experimental finance.

Frydman’s PAPER, “Efficient Coding and Risky Choice,” (written with his co-author Lawrence J. Jin) explores how different environments affect how people perceive lottery payoffs. According to their research, risk taking depends heavily on the distribution system. Along with these studies, Frydman often explores business dynamics through behavior and neuroscience.
