Ayse Imrohoroglu, professor of finance and business economics, has received the distinct honor of being elected a Fellow of the Econometric Society. The 90-year international organization works for the advancement of economic theory in relation to statistics and mathematics.
“Election as a Fellow of the Econometric Society is a recognition of important contributions to economics. The Fellows represent the highest authority of the Society,” said Eliana La Ferrara, president of the Econometric Society, in the official announcement.
Imrohoroglu specializes in understanding business cycles, inflation, unemployment insurance, and social security. The macroeconomist has contributed to more than 100 research papers, 40 of which have been published in top academic journals, including the American Economic Review, Journal of Political Economy, Quarterly Journal of Economics, Review of Economic Studies, and Journal of Monetary Economics. She received a National Science Foundation grant in 1992 to investigate the effects of social security programs on economies with imperfect insurance.
Imrohoroglu served as an editor to the European Economic Review between 2012 and 2018; was chair of the USC Marshall Finance and Business Economics Department between 2004 and 2007; and an economic advisor to the Central Bank of Turkey between 2013 and 2015.
