Welcome to the Lloyd Greif Center for Entrepreneurial Studies’ New Venture Seed Competition.
Each year, in the spring semester, the Greif Center holds the NVSC competition, awarding more than $75,000 in prize money. All USC students, faculty and staff are encouraged to apply. All applicants will have the opportunity to attend workshops where they will be guided to refine their business concept leading to their presentation including presentation slides (“pitch deck”) for the semi-final judging round. No business plan required.
Congratulations to the 2018 New Venture Seed Competition Winners!
The 2018 Greif Center New Venture Seed Competition drew more than 250 teams from across the university. Prizes this year included multiple cash awards adding up to $75,000 and free legal and business services from our supporting organizations. Additionally, the Marcil Prize for Social Innovation, worth $10,000, was awarded to the team whose business concept showed the greatest promise to positively effect society.
Through a rigorous judging and coaching process, the six finalists pitched to a panel of investors, entrepreneurs, and venture capitalists.
At the year-end banquet, the Greif Center awarded $85,000 in prize money to the top six teams: Apeiron, Adoptimize, Plotfix, Lighthaus, Bridget and A.O.I.
The top prize of $30,000 went to Han Cai, Esra Tiftik and Aria Samiei of Apeiron. Apeiron aims to transition the world to 100 percent clean energy. It provides a power-generation technology that supplies zero-emission energy 24/7. This will help complement the grid for the intermittent solar and wind power. The technology also produces a valuable side-product that guarantees an additional high revenue stream in addition to clean energy sales
Bridget, which uses video creation to equip underserved teen girls to envision themselves in careers outside their immediate environments, was the inaugural recipient of the $10,000 Marcil Prize for Social Innovation as well as a $5000 NVSC award winner. Asha Lannin, Radin Rahimzadeh and and Eleni Polakoff have created a system that provides girls with a skill-building interaction with a professional woman at one of our partner corporations, and in turn, the girls report their insights and feedback by creating a corporate social responsibility commercial for that partner brand.
