Academic Advising

Mission Statement

The mission of the Leventhal Undergraduate program is to support students' academic, personal and professional development in a supportive and collaborative environment. We aim to empower students to become self-directed learners and decision-makers.

Advisor Role

  • Help you develop, clarify & modify academic goals
  • Assist with course planning
  • Be available to you through scheduled appointments, walk-in hours, group advising sessions, and emails during regular business hours
  • Inform you about campus activities and opportunities
  • Assist you with career services and inform you about internship opportunities
  • Clarify school policies & procedures
  • Discuss your academic performance and its impact
  • Respect & adhere to confidentiality guidelines as outlined in the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

Student Responsibility

  • Keep scheduled appointments or cancel with 24 hour notice
  • Be punctual in attending mandatory advising and schedule regular advising meeting 
  • Review Student Academic Record System Report (STARS) & course plans
  • Read & respond to USC email regularly for important updates and information
  • Be open to opportunities outside of the classroom
  • Accept responsibility for your academic performance and accept the challenges that college courses provide
  • Share problems and express concerns with your advisor & follow up with recommended referrals
