Yingying Fan, Marshall’s Centennial Chair in Business Administration and associate dean for the PhD Program, has been elected a fellow of the Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Association (AAIA). The association was founded in Hong Kong in 2021 and hosts a global roster of accomplished artificial intelligence (AI) scholars working toward the development and application of the technology through academic research, exchanges, publications, conferences, and other activities. As a member of the prestigious 2024 cohort, Fan will join more than 1,900 other scientists from Oxford University, Stanford University, MIT, CalTech, Google, Microsoft, and IBM, among others, in this pursuit.

A professor of data sciences and operations, Fan’s research interests include statistics, data science, AI, machine learning, and economics and business applications as well as blockchain and large language models. Her latest works have focused on inference for AI models, networks, and texts empowered by the most recent developments in learning theory and random matrix theory.

Earlier this year, Fan was awarded the
2024 USC Mentoring Award for faculty mentoring faculty, postdoctoral scholars, medical residents, and fellows. The award recognized her dedication in fostering an engaging, supportive, and inclusive academic environment through mentorship.

A prolific researcher and sought-after speaker, her papers have been published in national and international academic journals. Fan has received numerous awards and grants and is also a fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics (
2020) and of the American Statistical Association (2019).
