LORENA MARTIN, assistant professor of clinical data sciences and operations, was awarded the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) grant to conduct research into how physical activity affects cardiometabolic health in Hispanic/Latina women. Her study will explore how neighborhood characteristics affect the 24-hour activity cycle, specifically in Hispanic/Latina women. She will measure the data with accelerometers and comparing these findings with other traditional statistical methods and multi-level modeling.

Martin's work at USC focuses on statistical computing and data visualization and incorporates her prior background as Director of Sports Performance Analytics for the Los Angeles Lakers. She's also contributed writing to Sports Injury Prevent and Rehabilitation 2nd edition, Improving Exercise Adherence, and authored Sports Performance Measurement and Analytics. Going forward, this grant will allow Martin to continue her research into healthy behaviors and exercise.
