Janna Wong

  • Senior Lecturer in Business Communication

Janna Wong is a professor of Business Communication courses in the Center for Management Communication. She has coached MBA and IBEAR students as well as Marshall employees on presentation skills. She has edited book manuscripts, written magazine articles on a variety of topics, and worked in the film industry on such projects as Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and The Day After. She spent years as a story analyst for studios and production companies and has written more than 150 menu decks for movies and television series on DVD for Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. She also blogs for a host of entertainment websites.

She is a two-time graduate of USC, earning her B.A. in English from the School of Letters, Arts and Sciences, and returning to earn her Master's degree in Professional Writing. She had taught WRIT 140: Critical Reasoning (now known as WRIT 150), and currently teaches several courses in the Department of Business Communication, including WRIT 340: Advanced Writing for Business and BUCO 458: Managing Communication and New Media. She created a special section of WRIT 340 for Business Cinematic Arts students and others interested in careers in the entertainment industry. In addition, utilizing her background in entertainment, she designed a course entitled BUCO 461: Strategic Communication in the Entertainment Industry.  

She is one of many members of her family who have graduated from USC, beginning with her father (School of Architecture), daughter (Annenberg School for Communication), son (Thornton School of Music), nephew (Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences), nephew and brother-in-law (Gould School of Law), and several cousins (Viterbi School of Engineering).

She maintains her deep interest in the entertainment industry and loves sports, especially Trojan sports, Los Angeles Lakers , Kings Hockey Club, and the Dodgers baseball team.
