About the RIMS-CRMP Certification

RIMS, the risk management society®, launched the RIMS-CRMP certification in 2015 after a rigorous development process with the participation of experienced risk management subject matter experts. The RIMS-CRMP addresses the need for stakeholder confidence in risk management professionals. RIMS members and non-members alike can earn the RIMS-CRMP regardless of career path. The RIMS-CRMP holds official accreditation from the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) under ISO/IEC 17024:2012, which makes it the only risk management certification in the world to hold such status.

Application Process
  1. Review the eligibility requirements:
    • Bachelor’s degree or higher (or global equivalent) in risk management, and
      One year of full-time work experience (or full-time equivalence) in risk management

      OR
    • Bachelor’s degree or higher (or global equivalent) in non-risk management area of study, and
      Three years of full-time work experience (or full-time equivalence) in risk management


      Note: Degrees must be obtained from accredited or equivalent schools of higher education. Internships count toward risk management experience.

  2. Register for the October 5–6 RIMS-CRMP Prep Workshop. (The RIMS-CRMP exam application fee is included with the course).  
  3. Visit the RIMS-CRMP portal to create a profile and start your application.
  4. Email RIMS-CRMP@RIMS.org to request the discount code to waive the exam application fee.
  5. Submit your RIMS-CRMP application for approval.
  6. Register for the RIMS-CRMP exam at a Pearson VUE test location near you within 90 days of completing the prep course. View testing windows and find an exam location.  
  7. Take the RIMS-CRMP exam and pass.  
  8. Receive your RIMS-CRMP certification. RIMS will send you a certificate suitable for display and your RIMS-CRMP lapel pin. Your RIMS-CRMP Certification is valid for two years.

Ward Ching, Adjunct Professor, will be teaching in partnership with RIMS faculty.

Managing Director, Aon

 

Ward Ching is Managing Director – Western Region, Global Risk Consulting, Aon. He is primarily responsible for Captive and Insurance Management Services, Domicile Management, and supports a variety of Aon Management Consulting Services to clients. Ward is also part of Aon’s Alternative Risk Finance Practice and Aon’s Multinational Client Council, servicing Aon’s largest international client base.

 

Prior to joining Aon, Ward was Vice President, Risk Management Operations at Safeway Inc. His responsibilities included Enterprise Risk Management, Integrated Risk Finance, Hazard Loss Control, Environmental Compliance, Property Risk Control/Engineering and a variety of retail, distribution, and manufacturing risk management initiatives, including Safeway’s Culture of Safety. Prior to joining Safeway, he was a Principal at Towers Perrin and a Managing Director at Marsh.

 

In 2018, he is teaching Introduction to Risk Management and Insurance as Adjunct Professor at the University of Southern California Leventhal School of Accounting. Ward completed undergraduate and graduate degrees, International Relations and Economics, at the University of Southern California. Ward is the 2018 Risk & Insurance Management Society Harry & Dorothy Goodell Award, RIMS’ highest professional honor that recognizes one person yearly who is furthering the goals of risk management and RIMS through outstanding achievement, research and professional contribution.
