What made you choose to attend USC Marshall?
I was looking for a school in a large metropolitan city, with accessible career opportunities left and right, all while having a campus presence and spirit that can be easily diminished in city centered colleges. USC fit all of those descriptions, and I found Marshall specifically to be the school for me due to the flexibility of my degree and the range of professional opportunities. Marshall was able to encompass my passion for design with an interdisciplinary minor, and also brought to the table unique experiences for growth such as GLP and the Career Advantage Program.
Advice you wish you had known while applying to college:
I wish that I fully understood how important it is to keep an open mind and not let preconceptions cloud your judgement. While having a vision of the general place you want to be and the types of opportunities present is great, don’t let that be your end-all-be-all. Follow your heart– as cheesy as that may be– the campus you feel most comfortable at is most likely the right one for you (if possible, definitely do campus tours with schools you feel most connected with).
USC activities/general hobbies:
My main involvements include being a designer for Trojan Marketing Group, VP of Marketing Strategy in Marshall Business Student Government, and being a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority (greek life). I am pursuing a career in marketing as it combines my passions of dynamic business and creative strategy. While I am a Business major, I have a Communication Design minor with the Roski School of Art and Design. In my free time I love exploring LA- from the beach to new brunch spots in town.
Why do you love Los Angeles?
For me, LA is the nexus of big city wonder and small town pace. It isn’t high strung or aggressively fast tracked like many large cities, yet it still holds abundant opportunity to grow and thrive left and right, with new possibilities every day. It’s at the forefront of development but simultaneously holds on to its the people that brought it there. That’s why I love LA– big enough for big dreams but also a home that keeps me grounded.
What global experiences have you had in college?
I had the opportunity my freshman year to be a part of the Global Leadership Program, in which our class of around 100 freshmen traveled to Beijing and Shanghai during Spring Break. Not only did I learn so immensely much about professionalism and international business during that trip, I also made lifelong friends that are with me every step of the way. I lived in both those cities when I was a kid so it was amazing to revisit it in a new context, with new people. #1 highlight was definitely when we climbed the Great Wall in the snow!
What internship/employment opportunities have you taken advantage of at Marshall?
This past summer, I interned as a Client Relationship Management and Marketing Intern at Van Cleef and Arpels, a luxury jewelry brand under the same corporate holding company as Cartier, Montblanc, and more. Working at the Shanghai corporate office, daily operations were primarily in Mandarin, although everyone was proficient in English. Not only did I learn about marketing and engaging with clients in the luxury industry, it was also an opportunity for me to polish my professional Mandarin. Going abroad for an internship was one of the best decisions I’ve made at USC so far, and my GLP trip definitely spurred this choice as my as it reminded me of how important it is to experience the interconnectivity of global business.
