Jamie has been a Professor of Geophysics and Energy at UC-Berkeley since 1992 and holds appointments in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Department of Earth and Planetary Science. He is also a Senior Faculty Scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He holds an MS and PhD in Geophysics from Stanford University and a BA in Mathematics from the University of Wisconsin. His research has spanned fields ranging geophysical reservoir characterization to carbon capture and storage to geoarchaeology. His recent activities have been in understanding the role of oil and gas in the energy transition in California. He was awarded the first Legends of Seismic While Drilling Award by the Society of Petroleum Engineers in 2007 and Honorary Membership in the Society of Exploration Geophysicists in 2020.
