Data Sciences and Operations

Kimon Drakopoulos
“Efficient and Targeted COVID-19 Border Testing Via Reinforcement Learning" (with H. Bastani, V. Gupta, J. Vlachogiannis, C. Hadjicristodoulou, G. Magiorkinis, D. Paraskevis, P. Lagiou, and S. Tsiodras), has been published in the journal Nature.


His paper, “Interpretable Operations Research for High-Stakes Decisions: Designing the Greek COVID-19 Testing System” (with H. Bastani, V. Gupta, J. Vlachogiannis, C. Hadjicristodoulou, G. Magiorkinis, D. Paraskevis, P. Lagiou, and S. Tsiodras), is a finalist for the 2021 Daniel H. Wagner Prize for Excellence in the Practice of advance Analytics and Operations Research. The winner will be announced during the INFORMS conference in October.

Yingying Fan
Received an NSF Focused Research Group grant, one of two such awards for the entire field of statistics this year.

"DeepLINK: Deep Learning Inference Using Knockoffs with Applications to Genomics” (with Zifan Zhu, Yinfei Kong, Jinchi Lv and Fengzhu Sun), has been accepted for publication in PNAS (Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America).

Vishal Gupta

Received an NSF Emerging Frontiers grant for a five year period.

Sesia’s patent application for Recommendation System using Linear Stochastic Bandits and Confidence Interval Generation was granted.

Singhvi’s dissertation has been chosen as a finalist for the Dantzig Award

"Geographical Pattern of Online WOM: How Offline Environment Influences Online Sharing” (with Yanhao "Max" Wei and Joseph Golden), has been accepted at Information Systems Research.

Tom Cummings
“Language and the Evolution of Academic Fields: The Case of Organization Studies” (with Chailin Cummings), has been accepted for publication in the Academy of Management Learning & Education.

“’An A is an A’: the New Bottom Line for Valuing Academic Research” (with Herman Aquinis, Chailin Cummings, and Ravi Ramini), was a finalist for Best Article Award for the Academy of Management Perspectives.

Peer Fiss
“Category Viability: Balanced Levels of Coherence and Distinctiveness” (with Jade Lo, Eunice Rhee and Mark Kennedy), was a finalist for the Academy of Management Review’s Best Article Award.

 Shon Hiatt
“Shared Fate and Entrepreneurial Collective Action in the U.S. Wood Pellet Market” (with S. Park), has been accepted for publication in Organization Science.

Nan Jia
"Theoretical Light in Empirical Darkness: Illuminating Strategic Concealment of Corporate Political Activity” (with Stanislav Markus and Timothy Werner), has been accepted by the Academy of Management Review.

Beverly Rich (Ph.D. student)
“The Contractual Governance of Transactions Within Firms” (with Catie Magelssen and K. J. Mayer), has been accepted for publication in Organization Science.

Violina Rindova

“To Shape or Adapt: Knowledge Problems, Epistemologies, and Strategic Postures under Knightian Uncertainty” (with H. Courtney), published in 2020, was the 2021 runner-up for OMT Best Published Paper Award.

Gülden Ülkümen
“Lay Theories of Financial Well-Being Predict Political and Policy Message Preferences” (with Job Krijnen, Jonathan Bogard, and Craig Fox), has been accepted for publication the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology and is forthcoming.
