Created by President C.L. Max Nikias, Visions and Voices is a USC program that allows students of all majors to attend free events, including concerts, workshops, performances, and guest speaker talks. Especially for Marshall students who do not study the arts and humanities regularly in their curriculum, this provides students the opportunity to expand their horizons beyond the typical business student’s course of study. Although I have not attended a lot of Visions and Voices events, those that I did attend provided me with invaluable insight and experiences that I would have never been able to encounter had Visions and Voices not existed. In particular, the most memorable Visions and Voices attend that I attended was an interview with Sarah Koenig and Julie Snyder, the creators of the podcast Serial, my absolute favorite podcast series. Taking place in Bovard Auditorium, the event garnered a large audience, yet I realized that I would never have been able to hear Koenig and Snyder speak period if I was not a USC student. As Albert Einstein once stated, “The only source of knowledge is experience.” While there are a plethora of amazing, unique programs and events at this university, Visions and Voices is not just another USC program, club, or organization, it provides once-in-a-lifetime experiences, experiences that should not be missed.
