The first semester of being a student in USC’s Master of Science in Marketing Program went by faster than we all expected, and before we charge towards the next amazing academic semester, I want to take a glance back at what we have learned and accomplished over the course of our intensive summer session.
One of the most rewarding aspects of being in this program is definitely the perks of having guest speakers from various backgrounds and industries - prestigious companies such as Taco Bell, Hyperloop, BMW, Starbucks, Disney - for our marketing-related courses. Dr. Badame made sure our cohort had the opportunity to learn from veteran working professionals so that we could have a better understanding of how marketing operates in different businesses. These were also a chance to network with guest speakers from our favorite companies. Hearing their real-world experiences excited the entire class, who filled the Q&A sessions following the speeches with insightful questions.
Another tremendous learning opportunity the Program offered us during the summer semester was the four career workshops with Marshall Career Service’s John Bertrand and Kira Shea Dalton. On four Saturday mornings, after a delicious (free) breakfast, John and Kira guided us through every detail regarding the job seeking process - important topics such as crafting and polishing resumes, creating our own branding stories for jobs interviews, and networking strategies all gave us incredible insights about what we can do to further our competitive advantage. The workshops also taught us how to strategize our career paths by understanding our personalities and primary interests, and with clear career goals in our mind, we are fully prepared to tackle the most challenging task – to find our dream jobs!
Fall semester is just a few days away. Looking at the phenomenal line up of speakers and the different career seminars the Program has in store for us, we are so pumped for school to start. More work to be done, so fight on!
