Why did you choose Marshall?
As someone interested in Entertainment, Marshall was a no brainer. The Entertainment resources between Marshall and the School of Cinematic Arts are unparalleled, and the alumni network is so strong and supportive. There is also a strong community of current Marshall MBA students pursuing Entertainment, which is hard to find at other schools. Last is the culture, Marshall is a more chill environment that emphasizes supporting our peers, not a cut-throat competitive environment. We truly are a Trojan family!
What has been your favorite USC Marshall experience?
My favorite USC Marshall experience has been getting to attend the Prospanica conference with some of my Latino classmates in New Orleans. It was great bonding outside of the school environment getting to know my classmates on a deeper level while exploring a new city. Also, the school supported us by providing funding to make it all possible.
What do you wish you'd known before attending business school?
Time is your most important and scarcest resource. Having a gameplan and being intentional about what you get involved in from clubs to recruiting will help you accomplish your goals, have fun, and not get too overwhelmed. Also, the notion of the MBA as a 2-year break is a myth. We're all working very hard to accomplish our goals, but there is a lot of fun along the way.
How is Marshall helping you accomplish your goals?
Marshall is helping me accomplish my goals by facilitating formal and informal networking sessions with industry professionals, hosting company visits, robust job boards, and giving me access to opportunities like industry talks, conferences and more. I will also begin taking classes at USC's film school next year and receive a certificate, which is very unique to Marshall/USC. Last, there is a large number of Marshall peers who are also interested in Entertainment, and they teach me something new everyday. The conversations and passion about Entertainment (whether its content, industry trends, technology, and more) are both enjoyable and a great learning opportunity.
