What Made You Choose to Attend USC Marshall?

When I visit all of the other top business schools, many of them blurred together, however, Marshall clearly stood out to me. Marshall offers programs and gives students opportunities that no other business school does. For me, the international programs that Marshall offers are truly unique. I was a part of the Global Leadership Program last year, and traveled to both Shanghai and Beijing over my spring break. It was my first time out of the country, and it was an experience that I will truly never forget. Studying abroad for a semester is very important to me, and Marshall is one of the only schools that will allow me to study abroad while fulfilling my upper division business electives. This program is called the International Exchange Program. I also really enjoy having flexibility in my schedule. The Marshall curriculum allows me to double major or double minor if I choose to, which is a great way to explore my different interests. Finally, the faculty at Marshall is superb. I have learned so much through my professors, and they have all been so accessible both in and out of the classroom. Marshall truly wants you to develop during your time here at USC, and they do everything that they can to help you explore different career options. I am a part of the CAP program, and I’ve learned so much through my mentor so far.

Advice you wish you had known while applying to college:

Go with your gut instinct. After spending just a day on campus, you can really start to get a sense of where the best fit for you would be. When visiting schools, try to talk to as many students as you can and get a sense for what they do for fun, how their classes are, and what their favorite part of their school is. Talking to current students is definitely the best way to get a feel for the school!

USC activities/general hobbies:

Within Marshall, along with being a Marshall Student Ambassador, I am a part of the Trojan Investing Society, Marshall Outreach and Volunteer Entrepreneurs, and Marshall Women’s Leadership Board. I am also a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority and the USC Ski and Snowboard Club. I love being outdoors, so I enjoy kayaking, waterskiing, and snow skiing in my free time. Why do you love Los Angeles? Being from Chicago, I did not spend much time on the west coast before coming to USC. I have loved being able to explore Los Angeles and all of the beach towns around the area. Since I love being outside, I really enjoy going on hikes in Santa Monica, kayaking in Long Beach, and relaxing on the beach in Manhattan Beach. There is never a dull moment in Los Angeles, you can always find something fun to do! There is always a concert or sporting event going on at Staples Center and a plethora of fantastic restaurants to explore!

Share a definitive freshman moment at USC:

My Global Leadership Program trip to Shanghai and Beijing. Since I had never been out of the country, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I learned more on that trip than in any classroom experience. It was incredible to learn about the business practices in China as well as the Chinese culture as a whole. I am still friends with people that I went on the trip with, and I know this experience will be one of my favorite memories of my college experience.

Favorite USC Marshall class:

Financial Accounting, BUAD 285A, with Merle Hopkins. I am in the class right now, and have learned so much already! This is a great class that has really helped me realize that I like accounting.
