Why did you choose Marshall?

Because my goal is to build a career that applies business principles to the delivery of social services, I sought a business school that valued corporate social responsibility and social enterprise. Marshall's relationship with the School of Social Work which allows me to complete the dual Master in Social Work and Master in Business Administration in addition to clubs such as Net Impact and Brittingham Social Enterprise Lab and an entire academic concentration called Sustainability, Society, and Business made Marshall the obvious choice for me. Plus having grown up in Southern California with lots of friends and family in the area, I knew that USC is where I'd be happiest. I was right!

What surprised you the most about Marshall?

Just how much is always going on! Guest speakers, lecture series, lunch and learns, club meetings, group meetings, etc.- it seems like everyday we're making choices between really amazing opportunities. While it makes me wish for more hours in the day so we could do it all, it also really forces us to prioritize and to commit to the things that matter most to us as individuals.

Favorite USC Marshall experience:

For me, it's been the little moments that have really cemented my appreciation for this program. The conversations with my amazing, fascinating classmates in the JKP courtyard or just how often someone says, "You have to meet so-and-so, I'll introduce you" have built an overall experience that has been collaborative, eye-opening and really fun. That and tailgates!

What you wish you knew before attending business school?

Spend as much time clarifying and narrowing career goals before school starts because there will be much less time for exploration and discovery than you realize. Stock up on three ring binders, make sure your phone/computer/planner calendars sync easily with one another, and getting 5 hours of sleep is enough.
