Data Sciences & Operations

JACOB BIEN has a paper accepted by the Journal of the American Statistical Association titled, “Inferring Independent Sets of Gaussian Variables After Thresholding Correlations.”

ANDREW DAW has a paper forthcoming in Management Science titled, “How to Staff When Customers Arrive in Batches.”

PAROMITA DUBEY’s paper, “Metric Statistics: Exploration and Inference for Random Objects with Distance Profiles,” was accepted by the Annals of Statistics.

ZIJUN GAO has a paper accepted by Biometrics titled, “PathGPS: Discover Shared Genetic Architecture Using GWAS Summary Data.”

MLADEN KOLAR was named a recipient of the 2024 Junior Leo Breiman Award (from the Statistical Learning and Data Science (SLDS) Section of the American Statistical Association) for his outstanding contributions to high-dimensional statistical methodology, probabilistic graphical models, and optimization methods.

MATTEO SESIA was invited to be a keynote speaker at the 13th Symposium on Conformal and Probabilistic Prediction with Applications (COPA 2024) conference to be held in Milan, Italy, this September.

SOMYA SINGHVI’s paper, “Increasing Parents’ Engagement on Ed-Tech Platforms Through Personalized Nudges: Evidence from the Field” won the People’s Choice Award at 2024 Early Career Sustainable Operations Workshop.

NICK VYAS received the Habilitationsurkunde Award by E.H.E. Europa Hochschule/EurAKA CH (university) for his work during the pandemic and advocacy for smart supply chains and smart cities. 

NICK VYAS, DAS DASGUPTA, and GREYS SOŠIĆ have collaborated on a new book. “Supply Chain Network Design: How to Create Resilient, Agile and Sustainable Supply Chains” will be published in May 2024.

Leventhal School of Accounting

ZIVIA SWEENEY has earned full promotion to Professor of Clinical Accounting. She has also been invited to work with the Office of Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass to address the shortage of accountants in the City of L.A.

Management & Organization

ERIC ANICICH’s paper, “Are Many Sex/Gender Differences Really Power Differences?” was recently published in the February 2024 issue of PNAS Nexus. Another paper, “Secrets at Work,” was accepted for publication in Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes.

PEER FISS co-hosted the 3rd annual QCA Conference of the Americas (AQCA) at Northwestern University this month. The trainings and sessions brought together a diverse set of QCA empirical and methodological researchers with 45 people in attendance and another 30 joining online.

HYO KANG, MILAN MIRIC (DSO), and GERARD TELLIS (MKT) successfully ran the 4th Annual AIM Conference this month, which hosted 82 registrants and 50 papers.

Marketing

D. DANIEL SOKOL has a paper forthcoming in the Journal of Economics & Management Strategy titled, “The Rise of Empirical Online Platform Research in the New Millennium.”

GERARD TELLIS has three papers accepted for publication: “What Is (and Isn’t) a Product Recall?” in the Journal of Public Policy and Marketing; “Product Recall: A Synthesis of Marketing Findings and Research Directions” in Marketing Letters; and “How Choice and Market Context Affect Incentive Effectiveness in Crowdsourcing Contests” in the Journal of Management Information Systems.
