Derek Harmon studies how people in organizations use communication to manage audience perceptions. More specifically, he examines the intended and unintended impact of communication in market contexts as well as in the management of relationships between organizations and individuals. Theoretically, he draw on different communication and social/cognitive psychological theories to gain a deeper understanding of the mechanisms involved. Empirically, he explores these issues using archival work, content analysis, and lab experiments. Derek's research has been published in the Academy of Management Review, Strategic Management Journal, and Journal of Experimental Psychology: Applied. Derek has also recently received the recognition of being an INFORMS Dissertation Proposal Competition 2015 finalist.
