Five Phases of Personalized Career Development

We are committed to the excellence and achievements of our graduates. The USC Marshall Master of Science in Marketing Program provides strategic career resources and individualized attention to every student.

Phase 1: Career Plan Development

In this phase, we gather each student’s career goals, as well as their desired industries and companies. Students are asked to share their key strengths and areas for improvement. Information will be kept in each student’s file and will be used for personal career advisement which will be conduced by the program’s Associate Director. This information will also play a role in determining the companies and executives to be invited for MS in Marketing Program career events.

Phase 2: Career Workshops

Students will attend 6 Career Workshops which will provide a robust foundation for creating a strong resume, performing well in interviews, creating connections at networking events and negotiating job offers. These career workshops are conducted early in the program to prepare students for upcoming networking and recuitment events.

Phase 3: Masters of Marketing Seminars

Masters of Marketing Seminars allow students the opportunity to make initial contact with company executives. The seminars feature marketing experts and senior executives who come to the USC campus to have discussions with students on their industries, companies and careers.

Phase 4: Mentoring Program

Each qualifying student will be assigned a professional mentor who is an executive at the student’s desired company. The mentoring program allows students to deepen their contact with the executive and the company, giving students an upper hand in understanding the indsustry, company culture and available opportunities.

Phase 5: Recruiter Events

The final phase involves supporting students’ career paths by providing additional opportunities for students to apply for jobs. There are 2 campus-wide recruiting events (fall and spring), 2 combined MS program recruiting events (fall and spring), and on-going recruiter outreach undertaken by the Associate Director of the program to meet individual student needs.

The combined MS program recruiting events, often referred to as Industry Network Connect (INC) events, offer access to exclusive resources which provide students with access to job postings and career events.

Make Initial Contact with The World's Leading Companies

The only of its kind in the nation, the Masters of Marketing Seminars allow students to make initial contact with companies related to their interests. Previous students have leveraged these events to gain further knowledge on potential careers and opportunities.

Masters of Marketing Seminar 2015

We invite executives from the world’s leading companies to participate in round-table discussions. There are a total of 5 Masters of Marketing Seminars per calendar year. In each seminar, a panel of 5 - 6 executives will be available to answer students’ questions relating to their companies, breaking into the industry, job responsibilities and much more.

Other Career Services and Resources for MS in Marketing Students

Individualized attention for resumes, cover letters and mock interviews

Each student goes through 3 rounds of resume review conducted by 3 different experts. Students will then optimize their resumes based on the feedback given during these reviews. Additionally, students will go through rounds of mock interviews to better prepare them for possible interview questions and scenarios.

ConnectSC

The ConnectSC portal allows students to upload their resumes for consideration by potential employers. Companies from all around the world post their job openings on this career portal. Students in the MS in Marketing Program have access to these job postings and may apply to these jobs based on their interests.

USC Trojan Network

Becoming a graduate of the Marshall School of Business allows you to join the Trojan Network, one of the strongest alumni networks in the world. The Trojan Network includes over 380,000 USC alumni, with over 86,000 alumni from the Marshall School of Business.
