Harvard economist Andrei Shleifer is the inaugural speaker in a new series launched by USC Marshall’s Institute for Advanced Studies in Business (IASB). His campuswide lecture, “Educated Entrepreneurs,” will take place on Friday, Jan. 27, at 2 p.m. in Jill and Frank Fertitta Hall, LL105. All are welcome to attend.

“We are honored to welcome Andrei Shleifer as the inaugural speaker in our Distinguished Visiting Fellows Series,” said Gareth James, Vice Dean for Faculty and Academic Affairs, E. Morgan Stanley Chair in Business Administration, professor of data sciences and operations. “He is the first of three eminent scholars to visit USC in the next few months as part of our effort to stimulate cross-disciplinary dialogue, networking, and partnerships.”

Shleifer, called the most-cited economist in the world, is known for designing conceptual frameworks that lend structure to new perspectives in comparative corporate governance, law and finance, behavioral finance, as well as institutional economics in general. He has written six books and more than 100 articles.

In addition to Shleifer, statistician Jianqing Fan, and strategy and organization expert Kathy Eisenhardt will come to campus this semester.

Fan, the Frederick L. Moore ’18 Professor of Finance at Princeton, will give a campuswide lecture, “Challenges in Analysis of Big Data with Applications to Finance and Economics,” at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 2, in Fertitta Hall 233. He is a leading scholar on statistical theory and methods in data science, finance, economics, machine learning, computational biology, and biostatistics.

Eisenhardt, the Stanford W. Ascherman M.D. Professor and co-director of the Stanford Technology Ventures Program, will visit USC in April. She is an authority on strategy and organization, especially in technology-based companies and high-velocity industries.
