Information on our Electronic Resources (databases)
Electronic Resources A – Z: List of over 80 business databases. (see also Resources link a the right of this page). As with all USC databases, you will need your USC ID and Password to login.
There are a few specialized databases that require the USC VPN and/or getting a personal account.
The following databases do not require you to be on the USC VPN, but you will need to register for a virtual account:
Unfortunately, Bloomberg will not provide virtual access to the Bloomberg terminals, however, they have made the Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC) course available to Marshalls students. BMC will be free (virtually) through the end of May, 2020.
- If you have a Bloomberg account already (you registered at the Bloomberg terminal), You will be able to take the BMC trainings for free via Bloomberg’s web portal: https://portal.bloombergforeducation.com/
- If you do not have a Bloomberg Account, and you would like to access the BMC course/ certification, please contact Bree Russell, email@example.com or Helga Haraldsson, firstname.lastname@example.org and we will get you registered.
Users can request IDs from the following site: https://advantage.factset.com/academic_idrequest
Complete the form to receive your FactSet Academic login. FACTSET will get back to you with instructions on how to access the Web product and/or how to download FACTSET software. The software version has a plug-in that you can also request. The instructions will also include some basic information on how to use FACTSET. Please allow 24-48 hours for them to reply. The e-mail with your ID and password will come from factset.net.admin, be sure to check your clutter or spam file: factset.net.admin
Search for global M&A transactions, intelligence, including PE. Includes DealScope (and links to original sources). This database is limited to current Marshall Faculty, staff and students only. You must have a MyMarshall account. To get an account, please send an e-mail with MergerMarket in the subject line to: email@example.com
Databases that require the USC VPN: Capital IQ and Pitchbook:
**Important: You must access Pitchbook and Capital IQ via the USC's Virtual Private Network, or VPN. See VPN link https://itservices.usc.edu/vpn/ If you have difficulties, you will need to contact USC IT services: 213-740-5555 (24/7) or via firstname.lastname@example.org (M-F, 8am - 6pm). Once you have installed the VPN, you can access Pitchbook and Capital IQ (see below)
Capital IQ (accounts available to anyone with a current USC user ID and Password)
- If you have never had a Capital IQ account: Once you have logged into the USC VPN, you can request an account: www.capitaliq.com Press New User at the upper right and register. You will need to use your USC e-mail account ending in .edu Your account is between you and Capital IQ, so if you forget your login credentials, you will need to go through Capital IQ (see link above). You can download the Plug-in, just hover over MyCapital IQ (red tab on the left), and press downloads. You can download select tools, or all.
- If you had a Capital IQ account via MyMarshall, and it has expired, we can extend your account until you graduate. Unfortunately, the plug-in is not available. Please contact Bree Russell, email@example.com or Helga Haraldsson, firstname.lastname@example.org and we will get your account extended.
In order to sign up for a Pitchbook account, or access Pitchbook, you must be logged in to USC VPN. Once you are logged on to the USC VPN, can get an account for Pitchbook virtually at: uscmarshall.pitchbook.com. Pitchbook is limited to Marshall students, faculty and staff, so use your Marshall e-mail address.
