Meet the Staff
Mark Brostoff is the assistant dean and director, MBA Career Services at the USC Marshall School of Business. As part of the graduate programs leadership team, he leads all aspects of the career services process for the Marshall MBA Programs. He joined Marshall after serving seven successful years as Associate Dean and Director, Weston Career Center, Olin Business School at Washington University in St. Louis. Prior to Olin, Mark taught marketing and entrepreneurship and served as the associate director of undergraduate career services at the Kelley School of Business, Indiana University-Bloomington.
Mark received a commission in the United States Navy, Medical Service Corps in 1982 and retired as a Commander, MSC, USNR in 2002.
In addition to several military honors, Mark has been recognized in higher education, including the Washington University Holobaugh Honors for Advocacy and Engagement in LGBT Leadership (2011), Excellence Award for the Advancement of the Profession by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (2006) and John Deere & Company Advancing Diversity Award as the Kelley School of Business Staff Champion of Diversity (2004).
Mark received his Master of Health Administration from Washington University in St. Louis and his BA from Alfred University, Alfred, NY. He was inducted into the Alfred University Omicron Delta Kappa Circle Student Leader Hall of Fame and received the Outstanding Alumnus of the Year award from the Alfred University Alumni Association (2000).
During his free time, Mark enjoys professional hockey, backcountry travel, wine-tasting, and his beagle/terrier dog, Penny. Most recently, he was the executive producer for the short film, Killer Friends.
Michelle Aitala is an Associate Director in the MBA Career Services Center. She coaches MBA.PM, FTMBA and alumni by providing career related advising in career transition, advancement and personalized job search strategies.
Previously, Michelle served as both as a private coach and as a university career counselor for over 15 years. She worked for Loyola Marymount University, Villanova University, and Lehigh University, where she coached students and alumni across all the university's colleges. At Lehigh, she managed the Business Externship program, developed a peer advising program, managed the career center's workshop program, and designed and led workshops on networking, career portfolios, and internet job searching.
Michelle holds an MS in Counseling and Human Relations from Villanova University, and a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Elizabethtown College. She is an avid reader, enjoys wine, traveling to Italy and Paso Robles, and has studied Italian for the past four years. She aspires to run her 10th marathon someday.
Lori manages existing and develops new relationships with hiring companies to increase the employment opportunities for Marshall graduate students. Her responsibilities include advising students regarding career opportunities in the fields of Energy, Industrial, Social Impact and Technology. She is the career staff advisor to the following student led organizations on campus: High Tech Association (HTA), Leadership & Organization Club (L & O), Operations Management Club (OMC), Marshall Energy Resource Club (MERC) and Marshall NET IMPACT.
Lori is a brand evangelist and marketing innovator who prior to joining USC held Director-VP level global marketing positions for technology companies Roland DGA, Printronix and Noritsu America. During her 19 year tenure with Kodak she held a variety of positions of increased responsibility in field sales management and marketing. Other career positions held include Director of Marketing for tech start-up Phogenix Imaging and National Marketing Director for a division of ARAMARK. Lori earned her MBA from the USC Marshall School and a BS degree from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. She is grateful to be a wife, a mother to two college-aged daughters, and is a fitness enthusiast.
John Bertrand, Ph.D, serves as Senior Associate Director of the CRC. He has over 35 years' experience in human resources, recruiting and career management and has been with USC for the past 21 years. Currently John is responsible for advising, coaching and training for EMBA/GEMBA/Specialty Masters/Alumni Support & Engagement/Fulltime MBA/Part time MBA
Prior to USC, he served as Director of Recruiting for a prestigious professional services firm for over 10 years.
John strives to provide individuals with a deeper psychological understanding of themselves as a means to guide their career choices. Combining experience and doctoral studies in educational psychology, John designed and teaches programs in career management for the various graduate programs addressing areas critical to successful career management. He has also coached literally thousands of individuals in achieving their career goals and currently works with students from all of masters and MBA programs as well as alumni.
John earned a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from USC's Rossier School of Education and holds a bachelor's degree in Economics from UCLA.
Tonii Brady is the Operations Manager for the MBA Career Services Center. She oversees daily office operations, including budgeting, events and on-campus recruiting.
Previously, Tonii was Associate Director of the Marshall School Human Resources Department where her responsibilities included, strategic planning, communications, compensation management, organizational development, compliance and employee relations. In addition, she was the lead for all payroll related functions and managed the student payroll coordinator and HR student workers.
Tonii earned both, a Bachelor and Master degree in Public Administration from California State University, Dominguez Hills. Her hobbies include writing children and young adult fiction books and her future goal is to write for the big screen.
Peter is an Associate Director and Global Sector focusing on the media, film, entertainment and technology industries. His primary responsibilities include developing and managing relationships across all disciplines within media/film/entertainment and advising MBA students.
Prior to joining the MBA Career Resource Center, Peter worked within the entertainment industry for over 20 years for some of the major studios including DreamWorks Animation SKG, Warner Bros. Studios, and NBCUniversal. His primary experience has been within human resources and recruiting, including extensive exposure to production and talent management.
Most recently, Peter was a Human Resources Business Partner for the NBCUniversal Operations & Technical Services group and prior to NBCU, Peter worked for 13 years at DreamWorks Animation SKG, holding multiple HR roles, including the management of the DWA Internship Program. His first job in the industry was as a Production Management Intern with the Academy of TV Arts & Sciences on the pilot for Sabrina, The Teenage Witch for Viacom Productions.
Although he's lived in Los Angeles for 20 years, Peter is originally from Ohio, and received a BA degree from Ohio University in Telecommunications. He is a passionate college football fan and his hobbies include traveling, playing poker, and watching extensive amounts of films and TV.
Jean Cayetano is the Budget/Business Analyst for the MBA Career Services Center. She manages financial transactions for several of the Marshall graduate programs. She also supports the department with travel arrangements, prepares and processes university financial documents such as purchase orders for consultants, independent contractors and vendors; internal requisitions for on-campus recruiting program, student leadership career events, alumni events, full-time and international orientations, mixers, tailgates; travel and non-travel reimbursements for awards, conferences, case competitions, career institutes, employer outreach, MBA recruiting events; sponsorship invoices for summer credit fees, sponsorship deposits; international wire transfers.
Prior to USC, Jean worked as an Elderly care provider at a nursing home in Hawthorne, CA. Jean found this work to be fulfilling and rewarding.
Jean attended LA City College. Her hobbies include, watching basketball, baseball, soccer and listening to music.
Shirley Chan, Ed.D., serves as the International Student Advisor for the USC Marshall Career Services Center. Shirley has been a member of the USC Marshall School of Business for over six years in student advisement and management roles within the MBA Career Services Center and the MBA Admissions Office. Shirley also has experience building relationships with select employers worldwide as well as advising student organizations' with planning and executing various recruiting events.
Currently, Shirley is responsible for advising and coaching international MBA students. Prior to joining the USC Marshall School of Business, Shirley served as a Graduate Advisor at the USC Computer Science Department. Prior to joining USC, Shirley held several positions in academic advising, career advising, and college management at Corinthian Colleges, Inc. and California State University, Fullerton. Shirley also served as an adjunct instructor at the USC Rossier School of Education and Everest College, where she taught leadership and career development courses. Shirley earned a Doctor of Education and Master of Education from the USC Rossier School of Education and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of California, Irvine (UCI).
Carolyn Chuang is an Associate Director and Global Sector Lead in the MBA Career Services Center. Her responsibilities include managing existing and developing relationships with hiring companies primarily in the consumer products and retail sector. She also advises MBA marketing students regarding career opportunities and job search strategies.
Before joining the MBA Career Services Center, Carolyn worked at Target Corporation and Versacom Inc. (a marketing communications agency). As a buyer and segmentation merchant at Target, she worked with large cross-functional teams to develop trend-forward products and segmentation strategies for home businesses. She was also an active member of Target's MBA recruiting team. Upon moving to Los Angeles, she completed a training program from the Coaches Training Institute and helped clients achieve their goals as a career and personal development coach.
Carolyn received an MBA in Marketing from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University and a BA in English Language and Literature from the University of Michigan. Carolyn loves pop culture, cooking, exploring new cities, and cheering on Detroit's sports teams. She is also a volunteer at 826LA, a creative writing and tutoring organization for students in grades K-12.
Jonathan Johnson is the Communications and Data Coordinator at the MBA Career Services Center. His responsibilities include the coordination and management of all career management tools and software, as running reports and providing data analysis for the purposes of setting career development and employer outreach strategies. He also collaborates and develops a coordinated communication strategy for career development opportunities.
Before joining the MBA Career Services Center, Jonathan worked at a technology start-up and a sales consultancy for consumer goods. Jonathan worked in a sales and business development role at the towing and roadside assistance start-up, Honk Technologies. There he recruited tow companies nationwide and on boarded new partners into the platform.
Jonathan earned his Bachelor's in Business Administration from the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California. He enjoys playing sports, travelling, hiking, and following Trojan Football.
Seta Kenady is the Associate Director of Employer Relations and Recruiting in the MBA Career Services Center. Her responsibilities include overseeing and managing all aspects of on-campus recruiting, the on-line recruiting system, fielding inquiries from employers in regards to recruiting and job postings, and manages the spring career fair. She works very closely with the Global Sector Leads in servicing the needs of our employers.
Seta has been with the University of Southern California for 26 years and has over 19 years of direct experience working with employers. She has vast knowledge of the MBA recruiting process and the MBA job market.
Seta is a loyal Trojan football fan and has had season tickets for over 25 years! She also enjoys researching and trying new restaurants and bars with her husband.
Debbie Lewis is an Associate Director in the MBA Career Services Center. She serves MBA students by providing career-related advising on an individual and group basis, and through career-related workshops. Previously, Debbie was the Director of the USC Viterbi School of Engineering Career Center serving undergraduate through PhD level engineers.
She was also responsible for recruiting, admissions, and career services for Executive MBA students at UCI's Paul Merage School of Business and has provided career services to community college students. Prior to academia Debbie worked for Lee Hecht Harrison, a globally recognized company providing career management and leadership development services to corporate clients, where she served as Vice President responsible for career services. In addition she has a corporate background and worked as a university recruiter, Human Resources Manager and hiring manager in various industries.
Debbie holds an MS in Human Resource Management from the Chapman University Argyros School of Business and Economics, and a Bachelor of Arts degree with a focus on education. Debbie loves fitness activities outdoors and at the gym, and has a passion for creative healthy eating, leading a balanced life, and experiencing different cultures, perspectives and architecture through travel.
Naomi is an Associate Director and Global Sector Lead responsible for Finance, Real Estate, Healthcare, Energy and International students. She also advises MBA finance students regarding career opportunities and job search strategies.
Prior to joining Marshall Naomi worked as a global fixed income investment professional at Peridiem Global Investors and Nuveen Asset Management As a portfolio manager for the long-short fixed income and currency strategies at Peridiem Global Investors, Naomi analyzed macro data across emerging and developed countries to develop fundamental views and effectively implement trades based on research and analysis. At Nuveen Asset Management, she was an emerging market analyst and developed trade ideas for various funds across many asset classes. Through her career in finance, Naomi has been involved with several organizations promoting women in finance as well as improving the lives of at-risk youth in emerging market countries.
Naomi is a native Canadian. She received an MBA from the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago and a BA in Business from the University of Western Ontario. Naomi enjoys hiking, swimming in the Pacific Ocean and traveling to destinations near and far. A recent mom of two kids, most of her free time is spent changing diapers, reading stories and discovering the wonderment through her kids' eyes.
Tina Ohmstede is an Associate Director in the MBA Career Services Center. She coaches MBA students on a range of career issues including self-assessment, job search strategy, networking, interviewing and decision-making, focused on helping them achieve their business school goals.
Tina has worked in MBA Career Services for more than 20 years. Prior to USC Marshall, Tina directed all career programming for the Pepperdine University Fully-Employed MBA programs and alumni. She designed and led workshops and webinars, organized alumni industry panels and networking events, in addition to one-on-on coaching. Before entering higher education Tina worked as a training facilitator and program designer for the Baskin Robbins Corporation, Doubletree Hotels and United Resources, working to improve employee performance and increase team alignment. She had a small business leading team building activities using ropes courses, rock climbing and rappelling.
Tina earned a Master's degree in Organizational Psychology and a Bachelor's degree in Counseling from the University of Missouri; she later received certification as a Job and Career Transition Coach. Tina enjoys the beach lifestyle, hanging out with her dog, savvy shopping, trying new international cuisine and spending time with her son – a sophomore at USC.
Lilit Sarkissian is the Special Events Coordinator of the Full-Time MBA Career Services Center. Her responsibilities include the coordination and execution of MBA club events such as Career Nights, Institutes, panels, treks and receptions.
Prior to coming to USC, she acted as the event coordinator at Second Glass, a wine and tech start-up. There she designed, coordinated, and ran large-scale wine tastings throughout the United States. Prior to this, Lilit worked at Price School of Public Policy, assisting the coordinator with the execution of their networking events.
Lilit earned her Bachelor's in Communication from the University of Southern California, minoring in Fine Arts. She enjoys drawing, painting, hiking, and Sunday Brunch.
As a Front Office Assistant, Latanya manages a myriad of day to day activities in the MBA Career Services Center. Her responsibilities include scheduling interview rooms for student/company informational calls, connecting MBA Career Services Advisors, Senior Staff and Global Sector Leads to students, recruiters, staff and faculty. In addition, Latanya coordinates appointments, mock interviews, workshops and counseling sessions through the Executive in residence program. She also manages the calendar for the assistant dean and director of the MBA career services, supporting a professional team of fifteen.
Latanya is also the liaison for reciprocal visits for MBA students from other top 20 MBA schools.
Latanya earned a dual Bachelor of Arts degree in Health Sciences and African American History at San Jose State University. Her hobbies include Abstract Artist representation and she is also a Certified Guided Autobiography Instructor.
Elaine Sommers is a Senior Associate Director in the MBA Career Services Center. She has been with USC for ten years and she has managed corporate relations in many corporate sectors. Currently, she serves as the global sector lead for the consulting sector and is responsible for training and development, advising and coaching advises MBA consulting students regarding career opportunities and on career opportunities and job search strategies. Elaine has also managed training programs for students working in finance, consulting, data analytics, marketing, and operations functions. Further, she manages external consulting projects with companies like Cisco, GE, EA, Clorox etc. In addition, she manages the Marshall Case Competition Program and SC Mentor Program which helps prepare students for interviews, internships and full time jobs.
Prior to coming to Marshall, Elaine worked at Caltech as the Senior Administrator for the Division of Engineering for Postdocs and graduate students. She has also advised many Fortune 500 companies in her career in law and consulting before discovering her passion for academia.
Elaine received her BS in Economics from the University of San Francisco and law degree from Yale. Her hobbies are mentoring, reading, photography, playing the piano and flying. She aspires to learn to cook in Lucca, Italy and hike to Iguazu Falls in Argentina.
