Mehmet E. Akbulut is Adjunct Professor of Finance at USC Marshall School of Business and Professor of Finance at California State University, Fullerton, where he has taught since 2006. He holds a Ph.D. in Finance from USC Marshall and a B.A. in Economics from Koç University in Istanbul.
His research examines insider trading, mergers and acquisitions, and how factors such as political geography, religiosity, and stakeholder orientation influence managerial behavior and corporate decision-making. His work appears in the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Empirical Finance, and The Financial Review, and has been cited in leading journals.
He teaches undergraduate Corporate Finance and MBA Corporate Financial Management, drawing on early-career experience as a financial analyst at Gillette (now Procter & Gamble) and Deloitte. He received the 2025 Teaching Excellence Award at CSUF.
