Business Communication Department

Peter Cardon's paper (with Janna Wong and MBA student Cole Christie), "Preferences for Written and Spoken Expressions of Thanks Among American Professionals," was published in Business and Professional Communication Quarterly.

Greg Patton chaired the Special Program at the national Communication Association’s Annual Meeting: Advanced On-Line Synchronous Instruction and Accelerated Student Learning. Part of NCA’s efforts to enhance instruction and student learning environments globally, the session received the top award from the Training and Development Division.

 

Data Sciences and Operations Department

Arif Ansari, Inga Maslova and Robertas Gabrys were named in CDO Magazine’s list of the Leading Academic Data Leaders of 2021.

Kimon Drakopoulos and Ramandeep Randhawa's paper, Why Perfect Tests May Not be Worth Waiting For: Information as a Commodity, was accepted in Management Science (Fast Track). View a 2 minute video describing the main idea.

Scott Joslin's paper (with Anh Le), “Interest Rate Volatility and No-Arbitrage Affine Term Structure Models,” was accepted for publication in Management Science.  

Tony Marino's paper, “Motivation, Human Capital Investment and Compensation in an Agency Problem,” was accepted for publication at the Journal of Management and Strategy.

Tony Marino's paper, “Banning Information in Hiring Decisions,” was accepted for publication at the Journal of Regulatory Economics.

Vincenzo Quadrini's paper (with Tom Cooley and Ramon Marimon), “Commitment in Organizations and the Competition for Talent,” was accepted for publication at the Review of Economic Studies

Vincenzo Quadrini's paper, “The Impact of Industrialized Countries' Monetary Policy on Emerging Economies,” was accepted for publication at IMF Economic Review.

Vincenzo Quadrini's paper (with Alessandro Barattieri and Laura Moretti), “Banks Funding, Leverage, and Investment,” was accepted for publication at the Journal of Financial Economics

Sandra Rozo’s paper, “Is a Refugee Crisis a Housing Crisis? Only if Housing is Unresponsive,” was accepted for publication at the Journal of Development Economics.

Sandra Rozo’s paper, “Deportation, Crime, and Victimization,” was accepted at the Journal of Population Economics.

Sandra Rozo’s paper, “Unintended Effects of Illegal Economic Activities: Illegal Gold Mining and Malaria,” was accepted for publication at World Development.

Selale Tuzel and Ben Zhang ’s paper, “Economic Stimulus at the Expense of Routine-Task Jobs,” was accepted for publication at the Journal of Finance.

Yongxiang Wang’s paper (with Jian Chu, Ray Fisman and Songtao Tan), “Hometown Ties and the Quality of Government Monitoring: Evidence From Rotation of Chinese Auditors,” was accepted for publication at the American Economic Journal: Applied Economics.  

 

Lloyd Greif Center for Entrepreneurial Studies

Jill Kickul's paper (with Colleen C. Robb, Daniel Veidlinger and Mark D. Griffiths), “In Other Words: Exploring Gender Bias in Top Collegiate Entrepreneurship Programs,” won the 2021 USASBE Conference Best Empirical Award paper.

Pai-Ling Yin won third place in Emerald Publishing’s Case for Women competition, for a case about a Black female Marshall alumna in medtech venture investment. The award was announced at the GMAC Virtual Leadership Conference January 20-22.

Chrislynn Freed was recently named CalCPA Education Foundation president.

Clive Lennox’s paper (with Xi Wu), “Mandatory Internal Control Audits, Audit Adjustments, and Financial Reporting Quality: Evidence From China,” has been accepted for publication by the Accounting Review.

Clive Lennox’s paper (with Kris Hardies and Bing Li), “Gender Discrimination? Evidence From the Belgian Public Accounting Profession,” has been accepted for publication in Contemporary Accounting Research.

Ken Merchant’s paper (with D. Otley), “Beyond the Systems Versus Package Debate,” was published in Accounting Organizations and Society.

Davide Proserpio's  paper (with Shomik Jain Giovanni Quattrone and Daniele Quercia), “Nowcasting Gentrification Using AirBnB Data,” is in proceedings of the 23rd ACM Conference on Computer-Supported Cooperative Work and Social Computing.

Norbert Schwarz’s paper (with M.C. Jalbert, T. Noah and L. Zhang), “Metacognitive Experiences as Information: Fluency in Consumer Judgment and Decision Making,” has been accepted for publication in Consumer Psychology Review.

Norbert Schwarz’s paper “Theory and Effects in Consumer Psychology,” has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Consumer Psychology.

Norbert Schwarz’s paper (with L. Zhang and E. J. Newman), “When Photos Backfire: Truthiness and Falsiness (sic): Effects in Comparative Judgments," has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology.
