Beginning August 1, Andy Call will serve as interim dean of the USC Marshall School of Business while continuing as dean of the USC Leventhal School of Accounting.
“It’s an honor to be named interim dean at Marshall,” Call said. “I intend to lead in a way that supports Marshall’s community as much as possible. We have world-class faculty, talented staff, wildly committed alumni, and some of the best students in the world. The people who are here are what make this place great.”
An accomplished scholar and educator, Call joined USC in 2024 to serve as Leventhal’s sixth dean where he has championed the school’s academic excellence, faculty research, and expanded collaboration across USC through initiatives such as financial wellness programming with USC Athletics.
As interim dean, Call will focus on key areas such as strengthening Marshall’s graduate programs, investing in academic excellence, and faculty research, while integrating artificial intelligence into the learning experience both effectively and responsibly.
“Everything, ultimately, is to benefit our students,” Call said. “We must provide students a great experience from the beginning of the pipeline as a prospective student, through orientation, through our academic programs, and then into the recruiting cycle and their career.”
He views the interim appointment not as a caretaker role but as an opportunity to advance the school’s mission and build on its long-term momentum.
“Marshall needs a leader who is willing to tackle challenges that might have a horizon longer than my interim deanship,” Call said. “I’m not approaching this role as interim dean. I’m approaching this as dean, for an interim period.”
Above all, Call believes Marshall greatest strength is its people, and this includes Marshall’s renowned Trojan Family which encompasses more than 100,000 alumni.
“The Trojan Family is powerful and very eager to help,” Call said. “My job is to articulate the vision of where we’re headed and identify areas where their support and involvement can propel the school forward. If I lay the groundwork and explain the impact they can have, I think we can do great things together.”
Call holds the Alan Casdan Dean’s Chair and recognized for his research on the activities of Wall Street analysts and their impact on the capital markets; managers’ forward-looking earnings guidance; the role of the media in disseminating accounting information; and the involvement of employee whistleblowers in the discovery of financial misreporting.
In addition to his leadership roles, Dean Call served as an editor of The Accounting Review. He has taught financial reporting topics to both undergraduate and graduate students and has received numerous awards for his teaching and research.
Prior to joining USC, Dean Call served as the director of the School of Accountancy at Arizona State University. Dean Call holds a PhD in accounting from the University of Washington and earned his MAcc and BS degrees in accounting from Brigham Young University.
