For students looking to enter the entertainment industry, the Certificate provides invaluable insights into the world of Hollywood. Many of our students aim to work in the entertainment industry after they graduate, and with close ties to iconic studios including Disney and Sony, as well as newcomers like Netflix and Hulu, the Certificate in the Business of Entertainment is a fantastic way to gain exposure to the industry.

Each semester, Marshall graduate students can select qualifying elective courses from the USC School of Cinematic Arts. Most students typically opt for two Cinema certificate elective courses per semester. This past Fall, our M.S. Marketing students completed courses including CNTV 521: The World of the Producer and CNTV 525: Entertainment Marketing. The majority of these classes are taught by entertainment industry professionals, and some classes even meet off-campus at studios or agency offices.

Current M.S. in Marketing student David Li says his favorite class is CNTV 521: The World of Producer, adding “the class gave me a complete tour of the industry and had amazing speakers from a variety of different areas.”

Fellow classmate Kevin Mawardi had this to say after finishing his first two courses for the Graduate Certificate in the Business of Entertainment:

“I applied for the Business of Entertainment certificate in order to diversify my learning experience. The opportunity to listen and learn from influential figures in the industry - producers, writers, actors (you name it) - has been well worth it. Ultimately, the certificate is a way to see the application and utility of marketing in a field I’m wholly interested in.”
