Jake Olson Vision Award

The Jake Olson Vision Award and scholarship is awarded annually to a USC student(s) who has (have) overcome significant challenges or obstacles to attend and excel at USC.  This award and scholarship recognizes students who exemplify grit, heart, and inspire others through their example or service.  Students may apply directly or be nominated by others in the USC community.  Instructions below:

  • Eligibility:  Undergraduate or graduate students enrolled and in good standing at USC in any school or field of study. 
     
  • Criteria:  Students who have overcome significant hardship or challenges in life to attend USC.  Challenges may be physical, health-related, financial, familial obligations, geo-political, or other adverse circumstances or conditions.  Those who demonstrate grit, heart, and high performance mindset skills are encouraged to apply.  
     
  • Application/Nomination:  Students may apply directly or be nominated by anyone in the USC community familiar with the nominee, including professors, advisors, coaches, mentors, staff, or other students
  • Amounts:  $2,500 and up per year or during degree program
     
  • To Apply or Nominate:  
    • For All Applications:  Student’s name, year, major, and USC ID#, if known.  Optional: May include links to media, articles, or videos to support the application.
    • For Direct Applications:  A brief description of the obstacles and challenges you have overcome or are facing to study at USC and how those challenges have shaped you and your philosophy (maximum of 250 words). 
    • For Nominations:  A brief description of the challenges the student has overcome or is facing to attend USC, why the student is inspiring to you and others, and your relationship with the nominee.
  • Awarded by:  The USC Performance Science Institute
     
  • Deadlines:  By March 20, 2018 for Fall semester; November 15 for Spring semester.
