Career Advantage Mentor Program (CAP)

The Career Advantage Mentor Program (CAP) is offered through the Marshall Undergraduate Career Services Office and provides sophomorejunior and senior-level undergraduates (majors only) the opportunity to be paired with Marshall alumni and friends of the university who assist them in developing the professional, interpersonal and networking skills critical to their career success. Mentors and their groups of three to four students connect and grow through professional development and social activities. More than 350 students and 125 mentors across all business industries participate in CAP every year.

Important Notes

For Students:

  • Student applications for the 2018-2019 academic year opened via the CAP Portal on April 9, 2018 and closed April 22, 2018.
  • Mentor bios are available for viewing once you create a CAP profile starting July 2, 2018!
  • The deadline to submit application materials to up to 7 mentors in Marshall Career Source is Sunday, July 22, 2018.
  • Students: you are applying to be MENTEES, not mentors.
  • If you were in CAP last year, you will need to reapply. No preferential admission will be given to students who have already participated. Please spend a sufficient amount of time on your application!
  • All CAP participants will by notified on Friday, August 17 to review any matches in the CAP Portal.

For Mentors:

  • 2018-2019 mentor recruitment has closed. If you would like to learn more about how to become a CAP mentor for the 2019-2020 academic year, please email us at
  • The reviewing period for reviewing mentees' applications in Marshall Career Source is Tuesday, July 24 - Sunday, August 5.
  • All CAP participants will by notified on Friday, August 17 to review any matches in the CAP Portal.
