What Made You Choose to Attend USC Marshall?
While searching for a college, I wanted a competitive and very strong academic program and business school. When I came out to campus for Explore USC and stayed with a host student, I was able to learn all about the programs that USC Marshall offered and how strong of a undergraduate program it offered. Additionally, the ability for me to pursue academic interests outside of Marshall was a big factor in my decision. Thirdly, the Global Leadership program is such an unprecedented program and one that I was extremely eager to participate in and could not pass up. I simply loved the environment at USC and at Marshall. I knew that the student body was ambitious, perseverant, professional, and academically and socially driven, all qualities that I find in myself and wanted to be around in a collegiate environment. A lot of it came down to the people around me. I knew that I would fit in perfectly at Marshall, both academically and socially; and as a result, most of my best friends at 'SC are in Marshall.
Advice you wish you had known while applying to college:
It would have been pretty helpful to speak to a current USC student while I was in the process of applying to answer some of the questions that I had about USC. In general, reach out to current students to create connections, to have questions answered and get inside advice to beef-up your application.
USC activities/general hobbies:
USC Activities: Marshall Student Ambassador; GLP Mentor; Member of the USC Men's Club Ultimate Frisbee Team; VP, North Area Residential Government; Trojan Knights
Hobbies: Playing and watching sports (baseball, football, soccer, ultimate frisbee, hockey); playing guitar; hanging with friends; cooking; exercising/working out; learning.
Why do you love Los Angeles?
There are so many opportunities in Los Angeles--both for jobs/internships, cultural centers and events, sports, LA Live, the beach just to name a few--that I can take advantage of. The weather here is beautiful and it is almost always perfect. It's become almost a second home to me.
Share a definitive freshman moment at USC:
My most definitive freshman moment at USC has to be my first USC football game. We were playing Minnesota and the game was at noon. I walked out of my dorm around 7am to start getting ready for the game and to join everybody tailgating. What I saw when I walked outside was simply amazing; the entire quad was a sea of Cardinal and Gold as people we're already tailgating outside and getting ready for the start of 'SC football. The entirety of the day was amazing. From hanging out on campus before the game to being in the stands with my friends cheering as Barkley and Co. started off what became an amazing season. This was what I came to 'SC for (well partly...); the school spirit and the fact that the entire community unites together for a single game each week of football. This event is what began to set off everything that happened during my freshman year and all the great experiences that I had.
