What Made You Choose to Attend USC Marshall?
USC was one of my top choices as I was applying to colleges. I knew I would get a good education at the top ranked Leventhal School of Accounting, while building a solid foundation in business. Instead of spending an entire year only taking general education courses, USC allows freshmen to start their business curriculum immediately. As a private school, USC also has smaller class sizes and allows students a higher probability of getting the classes they want. I hoped that with the powerful Trojan network, USC could give me the opportunities to launch me on a secure career path. In addition, where else can business students travel abroad in their first year? I had an unforgettable experience in Shanghai over spring break with the Global Leadership Program. Considering all these factors, I knew USC was right for me.
Advice you wish you had known while applying to college:
When applying to colleges, don’t apply just because of its name. Do enough research about the programs each school offers and see if they match what you are looking for. When deciding on a college, academic aspects are important. But also factor in how well you fit in with the students, the faculty, and the atmosphere. These factors will ultimately decide how much you will enjoy your college experience.
USC activities/general hobbies:
I am currently involved in Beta Alpha Psi, the professional accounting fraternity, which is a great organization to begin networking with accounting professionals and to learn about the accounting industry in general. I am also a board member in the Taiwanese American Organization. I love playing piano, violin, and viola, and in my free time, I enjoy making instrumental covers on YouTube.
Why do you love Los Angeles?
I love the weather and I love the food! It’s almost always sunny outside, and I can go out and explore the city with all its delicious food and culture! Some of my favorite places to go to are Little Tokyo, Santa Monica, and Koreatown.
Share a definitive freshman moment at USC:
My favorite part of freshman year was being able to eat with my friends in the dining hall all the time. We would plan huge dinners together to catch up and enjoy each other’s company. I miss being able to eat with all of my friends on a regular basis. That’s really one of the best parts about freshman year!
Favorite USC Marshall class:
BUAD 280, Financial Accounting was one of my favorite classes in Marshall. Professor Hopkins really made accounting fun for us, telling silly accounting jokes while explaining the material very clearly. He handed out colorful practice worksheets that would help us understand the concepts in a simple and concrete manner. I felt like I learned a lot about accounting in one semester and was fortunate to have him as a professor again in my intermediate accounting class.
