What Made You Choose to Attend USC Marshall?

I chose to attend USC Marshall because I knew that I would gain an educational experience that would prepare me for the competitive job market out in the real world. USC Marshall teaches students not only essential information that is necessary for a career in business, but also gives students a hands-on learning experience through endless opportunities outside of the classroom. These opportunities include programs such as LINC and GLP, where students learn about business in a global setting and put their knowledge to practice by traveling to foreign countries. I knew that USC Marshall was the only business school in the nation to provide undergraduate freshmen with this kind of opportunity and knew that there was no way I could turn down the chance to attend a school as unique as Marshall.

Advice you wish you had known while applying to college:

Once you make sure that your college application truly explains who you are as a person and student, you can only hope that the college admissions offices see you as a great addition to their school. Admissions officers want to know what kind of person you are behind all of the numbers and statistics, so make sure that your essays and short answers reflect who you are as an individual. Work hard on the application and be particular and detail-oriented. Reflect all of your achievements, abilities, and aspirations. Lastly, although the college application process can be stressful, do not spend your last year of high school worrying too much. Enjoy your senior year!

USC activities/general hobbies:

Outside of Marshall Student Ambassadors, I am involved in my sorority, Alpha Phi, and enjoy spending time with my sorority sisters. I am also currently involved in Campus Crusade for Christ and Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society. I also work on campus as an office assistant at the electrical engineering
department within the USC Viterbi School of Engineering. I enjoy spending my free time hanging out with my friends and soaking up the sun at the beautiful campus center, participating in sorority and fraternity philanthropies, hiking, running, going to football games, and cooking meals with my roommates.

Why do you love Los Angeles?

Going to school in Los Angeles and living here as a college student is equivalent to living the dream. The city of Los Angeles provides so many opportunities for internships and work experience, the weather is consistently beautiful, the people are good-looking and healthy, the sun is always shining, and fun places like the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and Manhattan Beach are a twenty minute drive away. At USC, we have the prime location of being in Downtown and being near the business district, where many accounting and finance firms reside – perfect for business and accounting majors. We are also a ten-minute drive away from LA Live, which hosts the Staples Center, a movie theater, and many famous restaurants. Being a USC student and living in LA will definitely ensure that you are never bored.

Share a definitive freshman moment at USC:

I have a horrible sense of direction and as a result, had many embarrassing moments last year as a freshman. It took me a while to get used to the campus and to understand where everything was, so I often got lost on my way to class or coming back to the dorms after a football game during the first couple weeks of school. I was that freshman girl, looking around confused and taking the same paths twice, retracing my steps, and eventually asking someone nearby where a certain building was.

Favorite USC Marshall class:

My favorite USC Marshall class so far is BUAD 280: Financial Accounting. I enjoy balancing out equations and working with numbers and balance sheets. I am a very organized and analytical person so Accounting makes sense to me, since a lot of the work we do in 280 involves organizing numbers, tables and charts, and balancing out equations.
