What Made You Choose to Attend USC Marshall?
Because the USC family doesn’t exclude you as long as you have a true desire to be a part of it. Whether you’re a student, an alumni, a faculty member, or just a fan, the Trojan Family will welcome you. That doesn’t just include football games and tailgates—it’s all-encompassing. From business connections and networks to lunch in McCarthy Quad with friends to meeting with your professor in his office hours to learn about his bird-watching hobby outside of his Microeconomics class, USC has it all.
Advice you wish you had known while applying to college:
Do your research well. Knowing which program you want to be in or career path you want to take will really help you when you’re looking at colleges. Be realistic about what your “match” schools are, but don’t be afraid to reach for your dreams. Talk to your parents and keep them updated throughout the process, because they’ve invested so much time, love, effort, and money into you and your education that it wouldn’t be fair to cut them out now!
USC activities/general hobbies:
I’m involved in the Marshall Outreach and Volunteer Entrepreneurs, an organization that plans Marshall Community Service Day each year. I went to Shanghai, China, last year with the Global Leadership program and it was one of the best experiences of my life—you bond with people on the trip and meet with top executives of huge international companies. I currently intern at the Walt Disney Company in the International Labor Standards department, and I have an on campus job working as an Undergraduate Student Consultant for international teaching assistants. I’m a Presidential Scholar, Town & Gown Scholar, and Boeing Company Scholar. Outside of school, I love playing soccer and watching gymnastics.
Why do you love Los Angeles?
I love Los Angeles because you never run out of things to do. I’ve lived in the Los Angeles area all my life, and I’ve learned that it’s one of the only geographic locations in the US where the beach, the snow, the lake, the desert, and downtown are less than an hour away.
Share a definitive freshman moment at USC:
Being really ecstatic that I chose my schedule so well—I never had any classes earlier than 10am during my fall semester of my freshman year. Then after a couple of weeks, I realized... 10am is early too.
Another freshman moment would be the first time walking down Trousdale and being swarmed by eager club and organization representatives with lots of fliers and postcards. There’s no way out so you end up putting your name, phone number, and email on every list. Then your inbox overfills.
Favorite USC Marshall class:
My favorite class so far has been BUAD-102, the Marshall freshman honors seminar during the second semester. Professor Wang is an MBA teacher who dedicates his time to teach this one undergraduate course and take us to Shanghai. During the year before the trip, we made video montages to show the students at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and learned all about Chinese culture, norms, government, economics, and even a few words in Mandarin!
