What Made You Choose to Attend USC Marshall?

When I was looking into colleges, I knew I was interested in studying business and wanted to apply to business schools. But I didn’t really know what aspect of business I wanted to get into. Luckily, Marshall’s curriculum offers a wide variety of business classes that can help me understand what my interests are. Now as a senior and having taken multiple management classes, I realized that management is something that I’m passionate about and hope to incorporate into my career.

Advice you wish you had known while applying to college:

While applying to college, I wish someone had told me to apply for schools not only for their prestige and ranking but also for how well they fit my personality and interests. So if a prospective student asks me for advice, I would encourage them to do their research on the different organizations and programs available at the schools. I would also highly recommend them to look into the social life, entertainment, and restaurants located near the schools.

USC activities/general hobbies:

I’m currently involved in Global Brigades, which is focused on sustainable development in third world countries. I’ve been a part of the organization since my freshman year and I’ve had so many awesome experiences traveling to Honduras and working on water systems. USC Christian Students is also a big part of my life; I go to its weekly Sunday services and Bible studies. One thing I love doing at USC is unning on campus with my housemates. Ever since I came to USC and saw the number of students who work out on a daily basis, I’ve been encouraged to stay fit and healthy.

Why do you love Los Angeles?

I’ve lived in Los Angeles for most of my life, and it’s probably one of the best places to be as a student. The weather is always great and there’s always something to do. Some awesome places to visit are Little Tokyo, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and Huntington Library.

Share a definitive freshman moment at USC:

My definitive freshman moment was when Barack Obama came to speak at USC and my suitemate and I woke up at 7 am to line up to see him. Even though we had to skip one of our classes and there were probably over 1,000 people in line with us, it was a great experience as a freshman. I love that USC is not limited to its own community but also considers and gives back to the neighborhood as well. At the Barack Obama speaking, there were almost more non-USC students than USC students lining up. Also before Obama spoke, the USC student president gave a small speech as well. At that moment, I was so proud to be a Trojan!

Favorite USC Marshall class:

My favorite USC Marshall class is BUAD 302 – Communication Strategy for Business. There were four individual presentations and one group presentation, which sound intimating, but they were great opportunities to practice my public speaking skills. Also, Professor Townsend and my classmates provided weekly constructive feedbacks that helped me improve on my weak points.
