Areas of Interest at USC and Marshall:

  1. Music Business
  2. Professional growth
  3. Communication Development
  4. Trojan Network
  5. Diversity of the student/faculty population

What Made You Choose to Attend USC Marshall?

I chose to come to USC because there were three specific traits that really appealed to me: school spirits, diversity, and outstanding programs. Having come from a private school where academics was the focal point of going to school, my high school had very little spirit. Seeing the amazing amount of support Trojans had for each other, as well as the amount of spirit they demonstrated at every sports game or even on a regular basis, I found the Trojan spirit to be really exciting and fascinating. In addition, I grew up going to an international school, so being able to continue having a great amount of cultural diversity surrounding me was important. USC is one of the universities with the largest international student population, so I knew I was definitely going to be exposed to diversity here. Last but not least, USC has amazing programs in Business Administration and Music Industry, both of which I was highly interested in. So in addition to all the other traits of USC, I wanted to take advantage of the curriculum that both schools within USC offered!

Advice you wish you had known while applying to college:

Talk to as many students as you possibly can! Since I was abroad, I was only able to find out about universities through their official website and email contacts. Even when I had someone to talk to, it was always a school administrator or admissions officer. I think it’s really important to be able to talk to a current student at every university you apply to, because they can really provide different, honest, and important perspectives about college life that will be beneficial to hear.

USC activities/general hobbies:

I love music, so I definitely take advantage of organizations on campus that have to do with music! For instance, I am in an A Capella group, I used to sing for Thornton’s Women’s Choir, and I also am a part of the Concerts Committee here on campus. I also love going to concerts around LA, whether it is for a major pop star or a small jazz gig.

Why do you love Los Angeles?

Again, this goes back to the theme of diversity! Not only does USC demonstrate an immense amount of diversity, so does Los Angeles. There’s a place for every type of cuisine and culture possible, including Little Tokyo, Koreatown, Little Ethiopia, Little Armenia, to Chinatown. I love going somewhere new to explore new food every weekend!

Share a definitive freshman moment at USC:

My favorite freshman moment was definitely going to my first USC football game. Seeing the sea of cardinal and gold at the stadium and the excitement of the crowd was so overwhelming to me because I had never experienced that type of enthusiasm for any cause.

Favorite USC Marshall class:

My favorite Marshall class is Communication Strategy in Business, otherwise known as BUAD 302. Not only did this class teach me now to communicate in a business setting through developing good presentations, resumes, cover letters, and memos, it also taught me how to communicate clearly on a regular basis. As a person who has always relied on memorization and extensive preparation, I was challenged to come up with articulate arguments and presentations on the spot. I really learned how to think fast to respond to various topics, and how to form my thoughts in a clear structure so that I can deliver any important message articulately
