What Made You Choose to Attend USC Marshall?

Marshall offers a very global curriculum, placing a very strong emphasis on understanding the global effects of business and ensuring that students are able to grasp a fuller understanding of the impact of transactions globally. I truly believe that is the future of the business world as economies become more integrated with technological advance, so the direction the Marshall is going in is one step ahead of many other business schools in the country. During my freshman year, I was already able to attend a trip that taught me about Singapore and eventually sent me there for a week after school ended to learn about the business culture in Singapore.

Advice you wish you had known while applying to college:

Be yourself in your personal statements, it is better that you be honest and show the admissions staff who you truly are. Even though academic ranking may seem important to many people, especially parents, you should still highly consider the other factors, such as the environment and people. You are going to be spending the next 4 years (probably some of the most memorable 4 years) in a city, and even if it is the best academic college in the world, you won’t do well unless you truly enjoy the experience.

USC activities/general hobbies:

I am part of Alpha Phi Omega, a community service fraternity at USC. We do community service on a very regular basis and we work with a variety of non-profits to try to improve the community and make a difference. I’m also part of Beta Alpha Psi, an accounting honor society at USC. I also play Badminton here and am part of the USC Badminton club, and am also a pretty big golfer (but haven’t been able to play as much as I’d like). But other than that, I am a huge foodie and I love to explore new restaurants in LA as well as cook.

Why do you love Los Angeles?

LA is such a great city because there is something for everyone. Whether you like to be outdoors, at the beach, or indoors, at a mall, there is something that suits everyone. The weather is always perfect, and the people are (mostly) friendly, and the environment will only help you enjoy your experience here more. There is so much diversity, ranging from the ethnic towns (Little Tokyo, Koreatown, Thai town), that you pretty much won’t feel homesick no matter where you come from in the world.

Share a definitive freshman moment at USC:

One of the definitive moments was when I traveled to Singapore with my classmates at the end of freshman year as a part of my Learning about International Commerce (LINC), and I was able to visit local businesses and get an insider view of how business was conducted in Singapore. It was a very eye opening experience because we were able to see the real world application of our theoretical learning in class and we were able to see it in a different context (under a different culture). Besides, Singapore is another great city with so many things to do so it was also a fantastic traveling experience.

Favorite USC Marshall class:

My favorite Marshall class so far is BUAD302T, which is Business Communications for Accountants. I am currently taking this class but this is the most career driven class I have ever taken. You learn how to make resumes, write cover letters, how to dress up, how to network, how to give presentations, and other essential skills that are highly important in the business world.
