What Made You Choose to Attend USC Marshall?

USC Marshall stuck out to me as a business school because it seemed to offer plenty of room for self-exploration while ensuring that everyone gets equipped with essential skills, such as networking, leadership, and communication skills. Most importantly, Marshall impressed me with its dedication to surround students with countless opportunities. I am certain that no other business school can boast as many unique mentorship programs, alumni networking events, and study-abroad exchanges. It’s truly a school that looks out for its students.

Advice you wish you had known while applying to college:

Pick a school you can truly picture yourself at. During the college application process, it’s really easy to get caught up with rankings, statistics, and prestige. But there’s more to college than just academics, so do your research and apply to universities that are also a good match for you in terms of location, size, student life, etc. I got lucky because USC turned out to be the perfect fit for me; not only did it have the amazing programs and professors I wanted, but it was also a place I could really consider home.

USC activities/general hobbies:

USC activities: Marshall Student Ambassadors, Marshall Women’s Leadership Board, Global Business Brigades @ Marshall, Career Advantage Program, Alpha Phi Omega Service Fraternity, Chinese American Student Association, Traditional Chinese Dance, Badminton Club, and IM Ultimate Frisbee

General hobbies: Dancing, hiking, blogging, public speaking, trying new restaurants, international travel

Why do you love Los Angeles?

First of all, I swear I’m a Cali girl at heart because I can never get enough of the endless sunshine here. As a Seattlelite who endured rain for 18 years, it was the weather that initially reeled me into LA. But in time, I fell in love with the City of Angels because it truly is exciting and vibrant hub, especially for people my age. There are endless things to do, places to see, and most importantly, FOOD TO EAT. I’m a huge foodie, so I could easily go on and on about all the amazing restaurants, cafes, bakeries, etc. here, but I’ll save that for a blog post!

Favorite USC Marshall class:

BUAD 302 - Business Communications has been by far the most helpful and rewarding course I’ve taken at Marshall. As someone who hated talking in front of large crowds, I can honestly say that I enjoy public speaking now thanks to that class. My professor structured 302 like a workshop by having us make fun impromptu speeches before we dove into more serious material. This way, we would get to know each other first and feel comfortable giving and receiving feedback. At the end of the semester, I felt like I could walk into any kind of presentation or interview feeling confident about myself.

What Global Experiences have you had in college?

I participated in GLP and got the opportunity to go to both Shanghai and Beijing. It’s indescribable what a tremendous impact the trip had on me – from the cutting-edge and dynamic companies we toured to the beautiful sites and picturesque views we visited, every second of it was unforgettable. But the best part was being able to do all that with my classmates, who are now some of my closest friends today.
