What Made You Choose to Attend USC Marshall?

During my college application process, I had absolutely no idea what I wanted to study. As a result, I picked business because it is a very versatile and open-ended major. It can cater to many different interests, from quantitative material in Economics and Finance to more creative projects in Entrepreneurship and Marketing. USC Marshall stuck out to me as a business school because it seemed to offer plenty of room for self-exploration while ensuring that everyone gets equipped with essential skills, including networking, leadership, and communication skills. Most importantly, Marshall impressed me with its dedication to surrounding students with countless opportunities. I am certain that no other business school can boast as many unique mentorship programs, alumni networking events, and study-abroad exchanges. It’s truly a school that looks out for its students.

Advice you wish you had known while applying to college:

Pick a school you can truly picture yourself at. During the college application process, it’s really easy to get caught up with rankings, statistics, and prestige. But there’s more to college than just academics, so do your research and apply to universities that are also a good match for you in terms of location, size, student life, etc. I got lucky because USC turned out to be the perfect fit for me; not only did it have the amazing programs and professors I wanted, but it was also a place I could consider home. Remember, your university is where you’ll be spending some of the most exciting years of your life!

USC activities/general hobbies:

At the first involvement fair of the year, I signed up for more than twenty things because I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. However, giving my name and contact info to so many different clubs turned out to be the best “accident” ever. Before I knew it, I was going to meetings for a wide variety of organizations, ranging from Marshall affiliated ones like Net Impact and Marshall Women’s Leadership Board to more recreational/social ones like USC Badminton Club and Chinese American Student Association. Because they were all so different, I was able to meet people of extremely diverse backgrounds, all of whom could support me in some way, whether it was academic advice, resume reviews, or simply workout suggestions. A year later, I am still exploring the endless student organizations that USC has to offer. Though I have remained an active member in most of my previous orgs, I am excited to be tackling three new ones: Traditional Chinese Dance, Alpha Phi Omega (a service fraternity), and of course, Marshall Student Ambassadors. Needless to say, I’m excited to see where each of these orgs takes me!

Why do you love Los Angeles?

Sometimes I think I was born in the wrong city because I am truly a Cali girl at heart. LA especially is such an exciting place for young people—there are endless things to do, places to see, and most importantly, FOOD TO EAT. I’m a huge foodie, so I could easily go on and on about all the amazing restaurants, cafes, bakeries, etc. here, but I’ll save that for a blog post! In a nutshell, I love LA for its endless days of sunshine (very exciting for a Seattleite), vibrant city life, abundance of sandy beaches, close proximity to Disneyland, and superiority in Boba quality.

Share a definitive freshman moment at USC:

A definitive moment of my freshman year was during my USC Explore hosting experience. As a host, I was responsible for taking prospective high school students under my wing and sharing with them my transition into college. As I was telling stories about dorm life, cafeteria food, juggling classes, etc., I realized that I had really come full circle. Only a year ago, I was in their shoes, uncertain and uneasy— yet, now I was a proud and happy Trojan, completely in love with my school and ready for my future. Favorite USC Marshall class: Lead
