As I entered my undergrad at The University of Texas at Austin, I already knew many people from my hometown and easily blended in to the large classes in McCombs. However, I was unsure of what I wanted to study or what passions could lead me to a career. Because of my interest in communication and understanding individuals, I considered majoring in either marketing or psychology. However, I ultimately chose to major in accounting because I realized the value in strengthening my technical expertise and business understanding.
After being raised my entire life in Texas, I decided to venture into a new life experience by attending USC for the graduate accounting program. The aspects that attracted me to the school were the personalized program and the individual attention given to each student, the real world application of their case-based classes, the opportunity to build a new network in a large metropolitan area, and also to complete enough accounting courses to sit for the CPA exam.
Although there was a lot of uncertainty and risk in moving to a new city and school where I didn't know a single person, I believe taking that leap of faith challenged me to grow into a better version of myself. Attending Leventhal and joining the Trojan family has provided me with new opportunities and experiences that I could never have imagined.
