David C. Kang researches business and politics of East Asia, with an emphasis on Korea, China, and the Philippines. Kang's latest book is East Asia Before the West: Five Centuries of Trade and Tribute (Columbia University Press, 2010). Kang has published numerous scholarly articles in journals such as International Organization and International Security, and published opinion pieces in the New York Times, Financial Times, and Washington Post. He regularly appears on media such as NPR, CBS News, CNN, and BBC. He also directs the USC Korean Studies Institute.
