- About MarshallCenter for Technology Commercialization
About Us
The Center for Technology Commercialization's mission is to identify, encourage, and support technology entrepreneurship activities among the faculty, students, and staff of the University of Southern California. CTC assists in the areas of IP issues, business feasibility analysis, business design, start-up financing, management team acquisition, preparation for funding, and related issues.
Since 1997 when we launched the Technology Commercialization Alliance, a partnership of the Marshall School of Business, the Keck School of Medicine, and the Viterbi School of Engineering, CTC has worked with hundreds of researchers and students as well as with other centers and programs across the UPC and Health Sciences campuses. Currently CTC is partnering with the following organizations in programs to facilitate technology commercialization at USC:
Annenberg Innovation Lab
Center for Technology and Innovation in Pediatrics (CTIP), a collaboration of USC and Children’s Hospital, Los Angeles
Draper Fisher Frontier Fund (DFJ Frontier)
Tech Coast Angels (TCA)
USC Center for Scientific Translation (CST)
USC Health, Technology, and Engineering program (HTE)
USC Marshall Society and Business Lab (SBL)
USC Regulatory Science Program
USC Stevens – Ideas Empowered Program
Opportunities for students include:
MBA Commercialization Teams: Through the Technology Feasibility course, the Ideas Empowered Program, and by special request from researchers, we identify MBA students to join researchers to do technology/market roadmaps, feasibility, and business design. Contact CTC if you would like to participate on a Commercialization Team.
Internships: Graduate and undergraduate students may apply for internships in startups through our partnership with the Business Technology Center of the County of Los Angeles and with USC alumni. Because these opportunities change frequently, please contact CTC for the currently available internships.
CTC's academic component includes courses at the graduate level that prepare students to create new technology ventures. In conjunction with the Lloyd Greif Center for Entrepreneurial Studies, CTC offers a Certificate in Technology Commercialization, which is a four-course program open to matriculated and non-matriculated individuals in a graduate program or holding a graduate degree. This university certificate is designed to give applicants a specialty in technology commercialization.
