Deborah Bothun
US Advisory Leader, Entertainment, Media & Communications PracticeCompany:PricewaterhouseCoopersDeborah Bothun is a principal in the Advisory practice in the Los Angeles office of PwC. She leads the US Advisory Entertainment, Media & Communications practice and the industry initiative around Digital Transformation, focusing on assisting clients in adapting to the changing content and distribution marketplace. Ms. Bothun specializes in commercial and financial due diligence for entertainment and media transactions and financings and strategic consulting around business transformation. Ms. Bothun has over 20 years of experience working with Fortune 500 E&M clients. Her recent experience includes providing due diligence for financings supported by over $20 billion in entertainment assets, strategy consulting and voice of the market studies, market and competitive analysis, and emerging market entry analysis.
A recognized industry expert, Ms. Bothun has been featured at several industry conferences, including the National Association of Television and Program Executives (NATPE). She is frequently quoted in trade publications on industry issues and topics. Her recent contributions to PwC' s thought leadership include, "Global Entertainment and Media Outlook: 2009-2013", "How to Capitalize on Lifestyle Advertising in a Customer-Centric World", "Breaking Down the Walls: How an Open Business Model is Now the Convergence Imperative", and "The Rise of Lifestyle Media: Achieving Success in the Digital Convergence Era". Ms. Bothun is an author of the Entertainment Profit and Litigation chapter in the Fourth Edition of the Litigation Services Handbook: "The Role of the Financial Expert". She has also contributed to more than a dozen research briefings that explore changing consumer behavior and its implications to business models, most recently publishing an article that explores how marketers can tap into the mobile and always connected teen demographic. Deborah is also acknowledged in best-selling author Don Tapscott's book, "Grown Up Digital", as a champion in researching consumer behavior and it's impact on business models. She is the recipient of the 2007 Cruz de Plata Award of Distinction, received from The Expresion En Corto Film Festival, the largest festival in Mexico, for her achievements in the E&M industry, as well as the 2009 Founders Award from the Association of Entertainment and Media Counsel for her support of the industry.
Ms. Bothun is a graduate of DePaul University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing. She has a Masters of Management in Finance and Accounting from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. Ms. Bothun is a member of the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts (CFA), and serves on the boards of Women in Film, Clare Foundation and the Institute for Communication Technology Management (CTM) with the USC Marshall School of Business. She is a member of other industry organizations, including the Academy of Television Picture Arts and Sciences.
