The USC Marshall Alumni Association San Diego Chapter invites alumni, students, parents, business leaders, and friends to an evening networking reception and presentation by a distinguished USC professor. “The rules of business are changing,” “We have to learn to live with the new normal,” “Traditional models are obsolete,” “The survival of our system is at stake,”--- these are but a few of the themes in the business press that fuel uncertainty and anxiety among executives. Many “experts” have seized the opportunity to launch a plethora of appropriately lofty “new” terminology – corporate agility is in fashion as are living strategy and strategic imagination. Many of these contain nuggets of wisdom but, if adopted superficially, many also obscure essential realities of business. Leaders often continue with failing strategies even in the face of evidence that the strategies are flawed. This phenomenon has been documented over many decades in military and business history. Why does this happen in some organizations and not in others? Why is it that change comes more easily, and at lower cost, in some organizations than others? Why is it that some executives are able to renew themselves and their organizations while others atrophy? And what lessons can you take away for your own careers? These fundamental questions are directly relevant to the current crisis and yet transcend it. Click here for more information
